Rice powder vs bamboo powder. Which one is better?

Hey!

Many of you keep asking me which product to use as the last step of doing makeup. Should it be a loose powder bought in a local drugstore or would it better to go for something natural? I’ve heard it through the grapevine that you powder your face with potato starch and white clay. Is it a good or bad thing to do? Well, let’s see what powder gives the best results.

Before I’ll move forward to the “powdery” test, let me explain one thing really quickly: potato starch and white clay are good replacements for commercial makeup products, but sadly they aren’t perfect. In general, the starch may create a very slippery layer on the face. Not all skin types tolerate such coating well. When it comes to the latter product – the white clay – well, I have to tell you that it works only for oily skin. Once you use white clay, you will see that it reduces shine, and this finish is so strong that it looks almost unnatural. Trust me, not everyone likes the effect of this made-up, almost doll-like face. Therefore, to me, the two most trustworthy face powders that should be taken into consideration are rice and bamboo powders. Which one is better? Which face powder to choose?

Rice powder for skin

Do you know that rice powder has a long history? Back then it could be used only by… geishas. Yep, that’s true. Today, rice powder is popular worldwide and is used by many as a product ensuring perfect satin coating on the face. And the biggest advantage of rice powder is its translucence – it doesn’t color the face a bit.

Additional benefits of using rice powder include its softening and smoothing effects. Apart from leaving skin with a matte finish, it’s also able to speed up the process of healing inflammation. For that reason it’s recommended to those whose complexion is oily and acne-prone. Rice powder is able to absorb sebum for a few long hours, which is why the matte skin effect is pretty long-lasting. I guess, I can say that rice powder has no equal in this discipline. Obviously, once you shop for rice powder, please check the lists of ingredients and choose the product that is formulated just with a couple of substances.

As I’ve mentioned this earlier, rice powder should be found essential if your skin is oily, combination, acne-prone and problematic. This makeup product is totally safe, natural and soothing. You can be sure that it neither makes any inflammation worse nor encourages more acne to appear on the face. Instead, rice powder allows the skin to breathe freely, reduces shine and helps the skin heal faster.

To be totally honest with you, I think that this rice wonder is perfect for all skin types. Even if your skin isn’t oily and doesn’t shine, you can give rice powder a try. It doesn’t contribute to dryness, doesn’t cause irritations and triggers no allergic reactions whatsoever.

Bamboo powder for skin

Bamboo powder is another white powder that looks like flour. It’s obtained from the stem of bamboo. To me, this bamboo powder lets you give a top-notch final touch to makeup mainly because it leaves skin with a matte finish, prevents shine and absorbs sebum so it’s perfect for skin with imperfections. Moreover, bamboo powder aids in the fight against blackheads and acne. In addition, it smoothes the skin out and leaves it fresh.

If I were to give you my personal opinion on both powders, I’d say that bamboo powder reduces shine more effectively and is more relentless for bacteria – it deals with acne just perfectly. To me, bamboo powder is also better at soothing the skin and healing inflammations. Therefore, if your skin is blemished and if it’s oily, choose bamboo powder. If your face is dry or combination, I’d go for rice powder.
