Hey!
Some of you keep asking me about eco-friendly personal care products. Which sustainable brands would I recommend? Is a wooden toothbrush worth the money? How does muslin face cloth really work? Go on reading ๐ Today I’ll tell you a few things about zero waste personal care products.
Natural toothbrush
This is my absolute favorite! The revelation of the recent months! I know that there are plenty of you using natural toothbrushes on a daily basis and encouraging others to swap their regular plastic toothbrush for an organic one – and that’s wonderful! In my opinion, creating a wooden toothbrush and making it available for everyone is a breakthrough when it comes to reducing plastic consumption in the world. As far as I’m concerned, a typical zero-waste-like toothbrush is made of biodegradable bamboo, which means that it decomposes itself a hundred – if not thousand – times faster than plastic. Obviously, this material is obtained in such a way so the environment is undisturbed. I believe you would agree with me that regular toothbrushes litter our word with plastic. Additionally, bamboo is more friendly to the human organism, especially when compared to plastic, which often contains harmful BPA.
Konjac sponge
Have you ever heard about a konjac sponge? Have you ever used it to free your face from makeup? For those who don’t know what I’m talking about, konjac sponge comes from the regions of Asia that still have some areas of unspoiled nature. One of such areas is Jeju island. I can compare konjac to a non-invasive structure: itโs a soft and nice sponge that is gentle to the skin and leaves it perfectly clean. Konjac sponge is perfect both for kids and adults. It can be used for massaging and peeling. And now the best part – konjac sponge is so delicate that it causes no harm to newborns!
FUN FACT! Konjac sponge is obtained from the root of Asian tree carrying the same name. The root is ground to obtain powder and then combined with water and baked. And this is how this natural porous sponge is created. Its pH is alkaline which means that it cures acne and removes dirt pretty well. Apart from its cleansing properties, konjac sponge is able to moisturize skin.
Bamboo/muslin face washcloths
It’s really hard for me to point which of these two washcloths works better for removing makeup. Surely, when it comes to OCM, I’d go for muslin cloth because it’s absorption is better, yet when taking into consideration the needs of oily and acne-prone skin, I’d choose bamboo cloth. Apart from having stronger antibacterial properties, bamboo washcloth is made of more durable fibers that facilitate deep skin cleansing. However, both washcloths are good at cleansing skin and taking off makeup.
Another plus of natural face washcloths is the fact that both muslin and bamboo cloths are super easy to wash – you’ll have no problems with keeping them clean. Additionally, they remain soft and gentle no matter how many times you wash them, so the comfort of use doesn’t get worse with time. No matter if you go for bamboo or muslin face washcloth, both of them are antibacterial which means that they prevent skin inflammation. Both are hygienic, provided that you keep them clean of course.
Pumice stone with clay Hammam
This is one of the best accessories that can help you remove dead skin cells from your feet. Hammam is 100% natural Moroccan pumice made of red clay that apart from clearing away dead skin cells and callous, it’s also rich in minerals that skin needs to remain healthy: zinc, magnesium, selenium and iron. When it comes to its design, Hammam pumice stone looks intriguing; I’d describe it as a disc with a handle.
A word of warning: Be careful while using any Hammam pumice because its abrasive effect is pretty strong, meaning that if you aren’t careful, it may cause harm to the skin. The worst thing is that you won’t feel it while gliding the pumice over your soles. You will feel the pain when you leave the bath and dry the feet with a towel. Trust me, I know what I’m saying – I did it myself when I was using Hammam clay pumice for the first time. Just don’t put too much pressure on the pumice and you will be fine.
