7 Rules to Follow if You Want to Grow Long Hair

Hello to all hair-care geeks,

I’ve been getting down to writing this post for a long time. Let me tell you about the things to avoid if you’re trying to grow long hair. We all should know 7 basic rules to follow. Keep reading!

Growing long hair: guide for a beginner

Before you start putting a lot of effort into growing long tresses, you must remember one thing: patience is the key word. A fun fact: half inch a month is an average speed of hair growth for Europeans. It isn’t spectacular, is it? Lots of time is necessary to notice any difference. Let’s not get discouraged, though. Being patient pays off, really. Surely having a haircut is way easier. Growing long tresses is like a nightmare but it’s achievable!

7 RULES FOR GROWING LONG HAIR

1. Avoid a popular mistake: don’t avoid trimming the hair ends.

Once we decide to start growing long hair, we usually ditch salon appointments and regular trims. This is a mistake! Split ends must be eliminated if you want to boast healthy, nourished hair. This may sound weird but getting ends trimmed regularly guarantees you realize your dream of long strands. Healthy ends mean a strong, healthy, beautiful hairdo.

2. Remember to hydrate and nourish the hair.

You must get a good conditioner or mask because suitable nutritional ingredients – vitamins, minerals and fatty acids – are essential to get long hair. The nutrients that you deliver with food aren’t enough so the right cosmetics are essential. Used with every hair wash, they let you maintain the optimal moisture and nourishment.

3. Always tie hair up (not too tight) to sleep.

When you grow long hair, each brittle strand of hair holds you back from achieving the goal. It’s good to know that one of the most common causes of split, damaged hair is… letting strands down to sleep. Long hair is the most likely to break and tangle at night or when you try to detangle it in the morning. So, remember to wear a loose braid or messy bun to sleep.

4. Brush, style, detangle hair in a gentle way.

Similarly to the nighttime hairstyles, the brushing and styling routine must be gentle. Every time you cause physical damage to your hair, you take a step back from the dream long tresses. Remember to strengthen the hair from the follicles to the ends, choose the right products and accessories: a brush or comb must go with your hair type, plus your heat-styling tools must have heat control so you can match the temperature to the condition of your hair.

5. Regularly combine scalp exfoliation with a massage.

If you want to grow long hair, incorporating a scalp massage into your routine is a must. Massage the scalp while shampooing but remember also to combine it with exfoliation from time to time. By doing so, you easily increase blood flow to the scalp, causing magic to happen: ingredients from the products are absorbed faster, your hair-care routine brings better effects, hair follicles work more effectively and hair grows faster.

6. Use scalp toners based on nettle or fenugreek.

As far as scalp massage goes, scalp treatments come useful. There are plenty of ingredients that spark faster hair growth. My favorite scalp toners are based on fenugreek and nettle but I like to use a blend of Ayurvedic herbs once in a while (even though the aroma they have is sometimes discouraging). Rubbing herbal products into the scalp strengthens the follicles making hair grow more quickly.

7. Never forget that hair oil treatment is essential to grow long hair.

I feel like I should have mentioned it at the beginning. My beloved oils are a must. If you want long hair, castor oil is essential. You can also try popular carrier oils (argan, almond, jojoba, sunflower) and mix them with essential oils (rosemary, tea tree) to wake the follicles up and give them an energy boost. Still, castor oil is my top pick which gave me superb results within a few weeks.

Let me know if you’ve got your favorite ways to stimulate faster hair growth and what rules you believe to be the most important if we want long, thick, strong hair.
